ABOUT THE WORKSHOP LEADER

In 2009, Jin Kim founded Common Thread Studio (CTS), a creative community workspace for designers of all skill levels. With a diverse artistic background that started in ceramics and later in corporate fashion design at St. John Knits and Vince, Jin wears many hats-- as an artist, designer, instructor, and entrepreneur. While working on a side project, she found it difficult to access industrial-grade sewing machines for her design needs and wondered why no one thought to create "a Kinkos for sewing machines.” Seeing this absence as an opportunity, Jin focused on the idea of opening a creative studio and started CTS, a unique crafting and sewing class space, with a range of services tailored to each crafter's needs. CTS is located in cozy South Pasadena (right by the Mission Metro station), where you will often find Jin and Luca, her sweet pup.
